Final Blog

For my final Big Blog, I decided to research the topic of K-pop. K-pop is not one of my favorite types of music, and I have yet to listen to it much, but the subject intrigues me. During my first year of high school and later in Middle School, K-pop became exceedingly popular and was always a highly discussed topic in every social group I was in. I researched K-pop, listened to various popular songs associated with this genre, and researched some of the most popular K-pop groups. In this blog, I hope to show what I've learned about K-pop and gain more experience in something so popular for so long. Most of the things that I discussed in this blog are things that I need to become an expert in and that I became intrigued about when researching this topic. Many of the questions I seek to answer are my own, and I want to use this blog as a platform. I was to analyze the factors contributing to K-pop's widespread appeal beyond South Korea. I also wish to examine the economic influence of K-pop and the industry. The role of social media platforms in promoting K-pop is also essential because it has become such a widespread phenomenon, and those media platforms have contributed significantly to K-pop's success. Finally, I want to analyze and assess how K-pop has influenced Western music and the entertainment industry, especially when discussing style, Aesthetics, and production.

Multiple popular K-pop groups emerged from the height of their popularity in 2012, notably BTS, debuting on June 13th, 2013. Black Pink debuted on August 8th of, 2016, EXO debuted on April 8th, 2012, and Red Velvet debuted on August 1st, 2014. The clarity of K-pop can not be attributed to any single factor. One of the most notable features of K-pop as a genre exhibit is its catchy music, comprised of energetic beats and electronic sounds. Another factor is high-quality production. Many cake pop music and videos are choreographed extensively, and the process of putting together the spectacle is one of the main draws to K-pop. There is additionally a unique blend of genres. Western pop, hip-hop, and R&B have influenced K-pop since its inception. The performances are the audience's primary focus and establish the click that Draws everyone to this new sensation. The global reach that K-pop has sustained for so long comes from the international markets and social media platforms that the groups can use to promote their music and crew revenue. I would be remiss if I did not discuss the fan base of K-pop because the fandom as a whole has become so passionate and dedicated to the culture surrounding K-pop that even now, when some say that K-pop is dwindling in popularity, the fan base is still providing for their favorite artists.

The global reach of K-pop reached a climax, notably through the use of media platforms such as YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram, which have provided K-pop artists with a wider International audience and a platform to interact with their fan base. Additionally, viral dance challenges and dance covers for certain songs plague social media platforms and elevate the popularity of K-pop groups. Not only this, but fans of K-pop music could also contribute to the rise in popularity through media platforms such as TikTok. Fann Engagement elevated K-pop groups to new heights through streaming services and Q&A sessions, acquiring information about K-pop more readily available and popular through algorithms on sites such as YouTube. Media platforms also provide International collaboration with artists where groups such as BTS and Blackpink could expose themselves to new audiences and present new cultures to areas. Additionally, a significant amount of data was drawn from media platforms that allowed K-pop agencies to tailor how they wanted audiences to interact with their groups and the best ways to promote their brands. Social media platforms are significant contributors to K-pop's popularity in South Korea and internationally through the spread of information and the popularization of this culture and genre of music.

One of the topics I wanted to discuss is the economic effects that K-pop had/tourism is perhaps the number one financial source as K-pop has attracted many
eager fans to attend concerts and fan meetings with their favorite K-pop groups. Additionally, other events that can be described as tourism contribute to the economy, such as the economic growth in transportation, food,
and shopping because of the increasing number of people in the area. Cultural exports are another way the economy has been shaped through K-pop, as Southern Korea and its entertainment companies export their music and merchandise internationally. The monetary value of those products increases the revenue of K-pop artists, groups, and industries. Things like streaming album sales merchandise and licensing are some of these things.

Additionally, when K-pop hit its most famous, the international phenomenon led to more than a few groups producing their style of music. This opened up opportunities for songwriters, producers, choreographers, stylists, concert organizers, and other professionals to join the K-pop craze. Band endorsements, things like Fashion Beauty, and the technologies necessary for the concerts and music productions to take place also received a significant boost because of K-pop's growing popularity. The entertainment industry's growth in South Korea has had considerable success due to K-pop. It has been able to produce and create training academies, talent agencies, and concert venues to support artists and creators further. The popularity of K-pop has significantly improved the economic status of South Korean and overseas producers. It provides a significant benefit to Future Generations who can build upon the success that  K-pop offers.

To conclude my blog post, I wanted to talk about a few popular pieces of music that fall within the K-pop genre that have had a significant cultural and economic influence internationally and domestically.

The first is Kill This Love by Blackpink. With its intense visuals and  Strong choreography, this piece is at home with the fan base and solidified black pink as one of K-pop's leading girl groups. The song DNA by BTS is additionally one of the more popular songs. It's a fusion of pop and EDM along with some hip-hop elements that, coupled with the passionate performance and choreography, captivated listeners and boosted BTS's popularity: my favorite and one of the most widespread songs, Gangnam style. The most popular and meme-worthy songs of all time and their online presence through platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter is almost unprecedented and shows how influential one piece of music can be. K-pop is an international phenomenon that took off in 2012 and has since grown in popularity and promoted the economic status of not only South Korea but a significant amount of online media platforms due to the rising success of K-pop groups such as BTS black pink and EXO. the wild success can be attributed to many factors, but the display of the performance of K-pop groups along with catching music and advanced marketing techniques K-pop has been promoted and excelled Beyond what many people thought would be possible. I've learned a lot about K-pop from this blog post, and I've also been able to listen to many different songs that I haven't been able to before, so I'm very grateful that I can have this experience.
