Final Blog

For my final Big Blog, I decided to research the topic of K-pop. K-pop is not one of my favorite types of music, and I have yet to listen to it much, but the subject intrigues me. During my first year of high school and later in Middle School, K-pop became exceedingly popular and was always a highly discussed topic in every social group I was in. I researched K-pop, listened to various popular songs associated with this genre, and researched some of the most popular K-pop groups. In this blog, I hope to show what I've learned about K-pop and gain more experience in something so popular for so long. Most of the things that I discussed in this blog are things that I need to become an expert in and that I became intrigued about when researching this topic. Many of the questions I seek to answer are my own, and I want to use this blog as a platform. I was to analyze the factors contributing to K-pop's widespread appeal beyond South Korea. I also wish to examine the economic influ...

Music and Family

For my blog about music and family, I interviewed my mother about her preferences and experiences with music throughout her life. My parents have molded my musical tastes through their inclusion of a variety of genres. Because of that, this perspective provides insight into my mother's inspiration for musical taste and my own. Growing up, I would always hear different types of music played by my parents, and as I've gotten older, I've been able to expand upon that music and better understand the messages within the songs I heard when I was younger. I think that childhood is a crucial time for children to develop not only opinions about life but also about different art forms, so I can say that I appreciate my parents for exposing me to so many kinds of music so that I could become who I am today.      When I interviewed my mother about her early childhood, she talked about how she was encouraged to play music by her parents at a young age. She st...

American Roots _ Bebop.

Jazz has to be one of my favorite forms of music, no matter what time in my life. As a member of the jazz band, I performed at concerts and for judges while in high school. It was our teacher's custom to play a documentary series about jazz's origins and how it influenced and was influenced by American history during each class. I also grew up listening to many different types of jazz. I started playing the trumpet when I was nine and always took a lot of inspiration from jazz artists. Between the catchy rhythm and the improvisation, jazz has a conic sound that I can't get enough of. However, jazz is not a specific song or sound; jazz is a conglomerate of different styles of music, and that means that there are many kinds of jazz. For this blog post, I focused on my favorite type of jazz, Bebop. One of the things that I enjoy most about Bebop is that it is an excellent example of the influences and climate of its time. Jazz artists who pioneered Bebop from swing include sev...

Music and Gender

Before I came to Converse, I attended two separate high schools. The first was Cane Bay, where I met most of my friends, and the second was Berkeley Middle College, where the class size was significantly smaller, but the academics were more challenging to prepare me for college. When I was at Cane Bay, there were people from all over South Carolina that I hadn't met before because I was homeschooled. The environment was a lot more diverse, and I made many friends from all over the world and from different backgrounds that I hadn't experienced in my upbringing. When I was at Cane Bay High School, I was in the jazz band, and I played guitar and trumpet there. We performed at multiple musical events and achieved a few different Awards, but it was about something other than the competition for me. It was always about the people and the music. One of the more notable people was my friend Sally. She played the trumpet just like I did. She was always energetic and Lively and perform...

music at events

One of my favorite aspects of music is its relationship with ceremonies and exquisite events. The piece is critical when setting the tone of an event or a tradition, along with encapsulating the mood of the evening. On a more focused scale, the importance of Music in Media, such as movies and TV shows, whenever there is an important event or a vital scene, we can usually identify the tone of the mood based on the music score. I am discussing one of my personal experiences with music about a significant ceremony. My older sister has always been an inspiration and the pathbreaker to many experiences in my life. She's always been there to guide me and the first to deal with many of the issues you find yourself in when you grow up. She is my half-sister, but I never addressed that because we've consistently grown up together. There was never a point in my life where she wasn't by my side. On the half that we're not related, she is Hispanic, so for her 15th birthday, she h...

My music thoughts and similar topics.

Hello everyone! My name is Atticus Finch. I wanted to discuss one of my favorite bands of all time,  Pink Floyd. When I was younger, and before I even knew the band's name or the name of any of the songs, my father would play their music in our house whenever we would clean or just have family time. I have a lot of memories of spending quality time with my family, relaxing and enjoying myself, and having Pink Floyd play in the background. As I've gotten older, the variety of music that Pink Floyd has to offer and the overall tone of the music are really appealing to me whenever I want to relax or just have a good time. One of my favorite things about Pink Floyd is how they construct their music with strange tones and rhythms that are less common than something in a newer album from a pop star Or a hip-hop artist. When I play Pink Floyd, I often Focus on the musical aspect of the song as opposed to the lyrical element because I always find myself discovering new and exciting ...
